Attorney Gregory Q. Carter served as defense attorney for a man who had been accused of second-degree kidnapping in connection to a case where a woman was found dead along Interstate 10. Prosecutors claim that Wright had taken the woman against her will into his car after an altercation in the French Quarter. The victim is alleged to be an exotic dancer and prostitute, and the defendant, her pimp.
Attorney Carter affirms that there is a lack of evidence indicating his client’s involvement, claiming that the charges are a result of political pressure. Investigators were unable to find surveillance of the two at the time, and witnesses only saw them in an altercation, but no one saw them leave the French Quarter together. Moreover, Attorney Carter pointed out that the woman had her cellphone the entire time, but did not communicate to anyone that she was kidnapped or in danger. If the defendant is convicted of second-degree kidnapping, then he could be facing 5 to 40 years in prison.
